Born Ferdinand Maximilian Joseph, Archduke of Austria; named for his paternal uncle, Emperor Ferdinand I of Austria and his maternal grandfather, King Maximilian I Joseph of Bavaria

Became Emperor Maximiliano I of Mexico in 1864, executed by revolutionaries in 1867.

Son of Franz Karl, Archduke of Austria (1802-1878) and Sophie, Princess of Bavaria (1805-1872).
