Son of Christian VI. King of Denmark and Norway (1699-1746) and his wife Sophia Magdalena, Princess of Brandenburg-Kulmbach (1700-1770).

  2. Frederiksborg Palace 8. Jul 1752 Juliane Duchess of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel (1729-1796), daughter of Ferdinand Albrecht II. Duke of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel (1680-1735) and Antoinette Amalie Duchess of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel (1696-1762).
