George VI. of the United Kingdom

Born Prince Albert Frederick Arthur George York. Born on the anniversary of death of his great-grandfather, Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha he was named “Albert” in honor of the latter and was called “Bertie” by his family.

Cerated Duke of York in 1920. Succeded after the abdication of his brother Edward VIII. as George VI., King of the United Kingdom in 1936.

Son of Prince George, Duke of York, later George V. King of the United Kingdom (1865-1936) and Mary, Princess of Teck (1867-1953)

Died: Sandringham House, Norfolk 6. Feb 1952 from a coronary thrombosis. He was also suffering from lung cancer at the time of his death.
