Sophia Dorothea Duchess of Brunswick-Lüneburg

Daughter of Georg Wilhelm, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg (1624-1705) and his mistress Eleonore d’Esmierd’Olbreuse (1639-1722), whom he oficially married in 1676. Sophia Dorothea was legitimised in 1674.

Born: Celle 5. Sep 1666

Married: Celle 21. Nov 1682 (sep.1694) Georg Ludwig Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg (1660-1727), her first cousin, who became King of Great Britain as George I. in 1714.

• Sophia Dorothea Princess of Brunswick-Lüneburg (1687-1757) m.1706 Friedrich Wilhelm I. King of Prussia (1688-1740)

Died: Ahlden Castle, Lower Saxony 13. Nov 1726, where she had been imprisoned by her husband since 1694.

Buried: Stadtkirche St. Marien, Celle
