Heinrich Moritz, Prinz von Battenberg, became to be known in Great Britain as Prince Henry of Battenberg.

Morganatic son of Alexander, Prince of Hesse and by Rhine (1823-1888) and his wife Julia Gräfin Hauke (1825-1895)

Born: Milan, Italy 4. Oct 1858

Married: Saint Mildred’s Church, Whippingham near Osborne, Isle of Wight 23. Jul 1885 Princess Beatrice of the United Kingdom (1857-1944), daughter of Albert, Prince of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (1819-1861) and Victoria, Queen of the United Kingdom (1819-1901)

• Alexander Mountbatten, Marquess of Carisbrooke (1886-1960) m. 1917 Irene Denison (1890-1956)

• Victoria Eugénie, Princess of Battenberg (1887-1969) m. 1906 Alfonso XIII. King of Spain (1886-1941)

• Lord Leopold Mountbatten (1889-1922)

• Maurice, Prince of Battenberg (1891-1914)

Died: Abroad the HMS Blonde off Sierra Leone 5. Feb 1896 from Malaria while on military service during the Ashanti War.
