Son of David Ogilvy, 12th Earl of Airlie (1893-1968) and his wife Lady Alexandra Coke (d. 1984), daughter of Thomas Coke, 3rd Earl of Leicester (1848-1941)

Married: Westminster Abbey, London 24. Apr 1963 Princess Alexandra of Kent (1936), daughter of Prince George, Duke of Kent (1902-1942) and his wife Marina, Princess of Greece and Denmark (1906-1968)
