Son of Friedrich Wilhelm II., King of Prussia (1744-1797) and his second wife Friederike Luise, Landgravine of Hesse-Darmstadt (1751-1805)

Born: Potsdam 5. Nov 1773

Married: Berlin 26. Dec 1793 Friederike, Duchess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1778-1841), sister of Luise of Mecklenburg-Strelitz who married Ludwig’s brother, the future King Friedrich Wilhelm III. of Prussia

• Friedrich, Prince of Prussia (1794-1863) m. 1817 Luise, Princess of Anhalt-Bernburg (1799-1841)
• Karl, Prince of Prussia (1795-1798)
• Friederike, Princess of Prussia (1796-1850) m. 1818 Leopold IV. Duke of Anhalt-Dessau (1794-1881)

Died: Berlin 28. Dec 1796 from diphtheria
