Alfred of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha

Born Prince Alfred Alexander William Ernest Albert of Edinburgh. He was called “Young Affie” by his family.

He became Hereditary Prince of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in 1893, when his father succeeded as Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.

Son of Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (1844-1900) and his wife Maria Alexandrovna, Grand Duchess of Russia (1853-1920)

Christened: Lower Bow Room, Buckingham Palace 27. Nov 1874

Godparents:

Died: Martinnsbrunn Sanatorium, Gratsch near Meran, South Tyrol 6. Feb 1899 after a suicide attempt by gunshot. At the time of his death he suffered from syphilis.

Buried: Ducal Mausoleum, Glockenburg Cemetery, Coburg
